Visit Rathcroghan Visitor Centre

Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, located in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon, is known as the Ancient Capital of Connacht.  Interestingly, it’s also believed to be the origin of Samhain—now celebrated globally as Halloween.  Moreover, this majestic landscape is Europe’s oldest and largest unexcavated Royal Site, filled with mystery and legend.  Here, visitors can explore archaeology, mythology, and history through interpretive exhibitions and expertly guided tours.
Best of all, Rathcroghan is only a 15-minute drive from Gleeson’s Roscommon, making it an ideal cultural day trip.

Explore the Museum

At the heart of the Visitor Centre, the interpretive museum showcases the stories of our medieval and Iron Age ancestors.  Additionally, exhibitions explore Rathcroghan’s role in the Táin Bó Cúailnge (Cattle Raid of Cooley) and Queen Medb’s epic battle with Cú Chulainn. As you browse, discover 35 artifacts found on the ancient landscape, each reflecting our ancestors’ daily lives. For a deeper experience, enjoy the interactive exhibits and audio-visual presentations that bring history vividly to life.
Alternatively, opt for a guided tour for an in-depth and engaging exploration of this unique heritage site.
